    Talent Acquisition and the Alaska Workforce

    This session will discuss the current workforce environment of the Alaska Market, siting our workforce market and population changes, industry TA needs and fluctuations, and employee expectations. We will also touch on key differences between Talent Acquisition and Recruiting strategies – what’s working for Alaska, what needs to be improved on, and how new strategies can be implemented. Lastly, we will address specific talent acquisition strategies to the Alaska landscape with a focus on a long range look at sourcing, retention and workforce development.

    Participants will achieve the following learning objectives:

    - Understand the unique workforce environment Alaska is experiencing regarding talent availability, industry trends and market fluctuations.
    - Gain comprehensive understanding to differentiate between a Talent Acquisition Strategy versus a recruiting-focus business model.
    - Improved grasp of Talent Acquisition strategies (short-term, and long-term) that will allow them to better serve their companies and stakeholders.

    Speaker Bios: 
    Christopher St. John
    Christopher St. John is a 10 year Navy veteran, family man and Talent Acquisition (TA) professional. Christopher is an Alaska Business Manager at Competentia, a global staffing agency and brings over 10 years of recruiting and talent acquisition experience. Working in both the corporate side of TA and contracted TA/recruitment, he brings a unique background to the industry. His expertise is focused around the Alaska economy with clients in the Oil and Gas industry, Mining, Native Corporations, IT, Financial and C-suite TA strategies. Christopher holds a bachelors degree in Business Management and serves on the Membership Committee for The Alliance.
